My first marathon ever - The Big Sur Marathon, Big Sur to Carmel California, was also the last day of my 39th year!

The course was spectacular and the weather was perfect, about 8 C degrees to start and 15 C at the end, overcast and no fog.

I met this amazing guy, Jay from Texas, while we were waiting in the pre-dawn hours at the start. He started running marathons at age 38 and now at 48 he is doing 100 mile ultra marathons!! He convinced me to start up near the front "Get up as close to the start line as your ego allows" he said.
