I had been running 5-10 km 3 days a week during my lunch hour with a
group of runners for the past couple of years as a way of staying in
shape. I had never had any ambition to run a marathon until one day,
discussion during one of our runs was about a couple of my co-runners
and their marathon plans for the year. Eventually, I would find myself
at a Marathon in Red Deer, Alberta.
I bought a new pair of running shoes and followed a plan for 3 ½ months.
As I increased my mileage each week I went through pain in almost every
part of my legs from my feet to shin splints, knees and groin.
